Imagine falling asleep in a South Pacific oasis surrounded by tropical palms and lush vegetation, just a short ride from your favorite Disney attractions. Disney's Polynesian Village Resort offers guests just that! The deluxe hotel has undergone extensive renovations in recent years, including reimagined guest rooms, improvements to the Great Ceremonial House, a new porte-cochere, and a rebuilt monorail station. Disney recently announced the opening of some highly anticipated areas, although construction is expected to last into 2026. However, the best part of the resort, being just a stone's throw away from the Magic Kingdom, always remains!
True to their commitment to customer service, noisy renovations will start daily after 9 a.m., allowing guests time to sleep and enjoy the quiet morning hours.
All the previously existing rooms at the Polynesian Village Resort have been completed, and guests are now enjoying the new accommodations. The rooms are designed with custom-made fixtures, furnishings, and decorations inspired by the popular film Moana. Some rooms feature wall art inspired by Maui's tattoos. While many guests find the rooms comfortable, some have observed that the abundant use of patterns and colors leans towards a more maximalist approach, unlike the minimalism seen at other deluxe resorts such as Disney's Contemporary Resort. Overall, the changes to one of Disney World Resort's original hotels have been well received by guests.
Disney has explained that the extended construction timeline will focus on enhancing the main entrance of the Polynesian Village Resort. The entrance will be reworked to accommodate the new Island Tower while improving the bus pickup area. Multiple parking lot enhancements are also scheduled. Disney hopes these enhancements will fix the current traffic congestion issues around the resort, thus making arriving at the resort by car or bus a more magical experience.
Island Tower
Construction on Moana's Voyage, a splash pad area located at the new Cove Pool in Island Tower, is underway. Guests have reported seeing Moana's figure and her outrigger canoe being built. The new Cove Pool will also feature a courtyard with a sandy beach area, a whirlpool spa, and views of Seven Seas Lagoon. Guests at Island Tower will also have access to the pre-existing Lava Pool and Oasis Pool and can view the Magic Kingdom fireworks and the Electrical Water Pageant.
The Island Tower, featuring sustainable design elements, will add 268 Disney Vacation Club rooms to the resort, providing a comfortable and convenient stay for families and long-term visitors. In addition to a room expansion, the Island Tower will feature a new Disney dining destination. The new Wailulu Bar and Grill is designed to evoke the beauty of the islands. It features banquette seating surrounded by flowing water and a bar overlooking the Seven Seas Lagoon and Cinderella's Castle at Magic Kingdom. A new fitness center will also be a part of the new Island Towers area. Reservations are now available for the Island Tower, which will open in December 2024.
