After years of construction, EPCOT's transformation is finally nearing completion. One of the most anticipated attractions, Journey of Water, inspired by the Disney movie Moana, opened in October 2023 and is already a hit among park visitors. Located in World Nature, the outdoor trails of Journey of Water offer a unique experience where water comes to life, encouraging guests of all ages and heights to explore its playful personality. Keep reading for insider tips on how to make the most of your visit!
Journey of Water is a self-guided attraction that caters to everyone's comfort level, offering dry and wet path options. Be aware that only the dry path is wheelchair and service animal accessible. The wet path offers interactive experiences ranging from light sprinkles to a full-on soak, with kids particularly enjoying the splash pad area. If you plan on taking the wet path, it's highly recommended that you pack a towel and change of clothes. This walkthrough attraction can be enjoyed at each guest's desired speed. Walking through Journey of Water without stopping to enjoy the interactive spots will take about 10-20 minutes. However, given everything this attraction offers, one can easily spend more than an hour exploring the watery trails.
Journey of Water takes visitors on an immersive tour of the water cycle. Each of the attraction's nine sections provides a unique way for visitors to interact with water. The Rain section, for instance, highlights water's renewing capabilities as it falls from the sky onto the ground. In this section, visitors can play with strings of water that produce distinct musical notes when touched. The Land section features a curtain-like waterfall; the quicker you walk through it, the more likely you will get wet. Walk slowly and watch the water magically split around you!
As you walk through Journey of Water's trails, the world of Moana comes to life. Rock formations feature carvings of popular characters from the movie, including Pua and Hei Hei. Visitors can also meet Moana herself! The stand-by line for this famous princess is located to the left of the attraction's entrance. Moana appears intermittently throughout the day, and like all other aspects of Journey of Water, this character meeting is weather permitting. The centerpiece of Journey of Water is undoubtedly the topiary sculpture of the goddess Te Fiti, a 16-foot tall figure meant to protect water as it makes its cyclical journey. Journey of Water aims to educate visitors about the importance of water preservation and highlight the vital link shared between humans and water.
In addition to Journey of Water, EPCOT opened Remy's Ratatouille Adventure in 2021 and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind in 2022 as part of its multi-year transformation. A new nighttime spectacular called Luminous is set to premiere in December 2023 to celebrate the Walt Disney Company's 100th anniversary. Visiting EPCOT and seeing the construction walls coming down is truly exciting!
